Warm spring greetings to everyone!!! It is going to be in the mid to upper 80's today here in Portland and the cool breeze that is blowing makes the high temperature quite enjoyable!! Will get out on my bicycle and ride around town and soak up the rays!!!
I am not much of a television watcher. I find when I turn on the "idiot box" there is too much crap and not enough creative and stimulating programming! How I miss the days of good comedy like Mary Tyler Moore, The Carol Burnett Show, Fraiser and Seinfeld. Now the evenings are filled with phony "reality" shows and garbage like "The Apprentice" with Donald Trump (I won't even get into how I feel about this pilot fish but you get my drift). The morning television shows are equally as nauseating as all they are are info-mercials brought to you by General Electric, Disney, and Sumner Redstone (who holds 80% of the shares of National Amusements the parent company of CBS). GE is the world's 10th largest corporation (a conglomerate actually so they have lots to advertise on the "Today Show") in existence.
It is actually this show that I am going to focus on for the rest of my blog today. Before I was politically conscious I used to watch the Today Show every morning for at least an hour as I awakened and dressed for work. Now, I occasionally turn it on to see how the "news" is framed (from 7 to 8 a.m. it is more political/news oriented than a vehicle for "entertainment" & "selling") so I can understand what the masses are hearing.
Recently, I caught an upcoming segment clip (during the 8:00 hour) of a book that was going to be discussed w/ the authors about married couples and some dirty little secrets that YOU (husbands and wives) should know about. "Eeeewwww"...I thought to myself..."this could be interesting". So, I suffered through the mentally draining fluff until the segment aired. Here is the gist of the interview:
The book is called "I'd Trade My Husband for a Housekeeper: Loving Your Marriage After the Baby Carriage". The authors, Trisha Ashworth (whose career accomplishments include: advertising for American Express, PepsiCo, and Levi's) and Amy Nobile (whose career accomplishments include: leading public relations programs for Visa, FritoLay, and WebvanIn)interviewed 300 wives who were polled about some dirty little secrets they have about life after having children with their husbands...and interestingly enough 280 out of 300 of those wives said that their Dirty Secret #2 is "If I could pay someone to have sex [with my husband] for me I would." HMMMMMM fascinating statement isn't it?
Why is it that our society thinks that statements like those should only be relegated to a joking tone? If that is indeed a statement that a wife/mother holds then why can't members of our society have an open discussion about "open" relationships or even "surrogate sex" as an option to reducing stress and meeting each other's needs for a healthy and loving relationship? I think we (members in our society) are really un-evolved when it comes to learning how to improve and expand healthy relationships in the United States.
I recently had the good fortune to meet a very sweet, loving and gentle man who lost his wife to breast cancer a year ago. This man is 51 years old and has a child (grown I believe) from that marriage. He shared with me how much he missed the intimacy and physical closeness he once shared with her. Even as she battled her illness sex was not an option in their marriage at the time....I can imagine how ill and tired she must have been most of the time. He was a loyal and faithful husband to her but he wished to be intimate with her. My heart went out to him!!!! I wish him all the best as he moves on through this world without his wife but in hopes that he will find love again!!!
My wish and continued occasional dialogue with the members in my society is to start having open discussions on love, relationships and safe surrogate-sex opportunities so that people do not have to miss out on the physical needs that we, homo sapiens/human beings, require to satisfy a healthy mental capacity!
WISHING YOU LOTS OF PHYSICAL ENJOYMENT THIS LOVELY SPRING DAY!!!

Blissfully yours,
Emma : )
